Math 10 prep has garnered a lot of attention this year. There has been a lot of positive feedback from both students and parents alike. We have been told that through this course, students are gaining confidence and building new perspectives on math before heading into Math 10C. The prep course combines a review of Mathematics 9 concepts and a preview of concepts students will encounter in Math 10C. Students have shared that this has helped decrease their anxiety immensely. The overall atmosphere is positive as students engage in a wide variety of hands-on activities, digital platforms, brain teasers, math starters, math games and traditional-style learning. The pictures below are of students playing two games that their teacher, Ms. Degenhardt, created for this course. Students are racing to plot points and graph linear equations on a coordinate grid. Serious business!

No 7/8 Girls Basketball tonight. There will be a player meeting tomorrow at lunch in the library

Our Cold Lake schools had the honour of hosting Bishop Gary & Fr. Nong today! Student tour guides were exceptional, proud ambassadors of their school & Catholic education. Classes had lovely discussions with our guest about Advent and shared their learnings about Chemistry & Physics labs, a Novel Study, a mock UN debate, and “Mary on the Mantel”! They also enjoyed a heartfelt, home cooked Stew with Staff for lunch! Bishop Gary is in Cold Lake today to offer the Sacrament of Confirmation for children of St. Dominic & Assumption Parishes.

Grade 8 students recently participated in an engaging hands-on project where they built plant cell models. This activity allowed them to explore the structure and function of plant cells in a creative and interactive way. Students used various materials to represent key organelles, deepening their understanding of Science through visual and tactile learning!

STEAM 9:
In STEAM 9, students embarked on an exciting hands-on project where they designed and built their very own DC motor-powered cars. This activity combines principles of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics as they apply concepts like circuitry, mechanics, and problem-solving to create a functional vehicle. Through this project, students gain valuable skills in teamwork, creativity and innovation while learning how motors work and how to bring their designs to life. It's a fun and engaging way to explore the world of engineering and technology!

"There has been a crime! " A student'’s phone was stolen and the Biology 20 students stepped in as forensic experts!" Using their knowledge of macromolecules, they tested evidence left at the scene to identify the culprit. By analyzing proteins, starches, glucose, and lipids, they cracked the case—matching the clues to the guilty party’s food!
Full disclosure: no phone was actually stolen....
